Unit Shards are special items that you need to be able to upgrade your units.

There are various ways you can do to obtain more Unit Shards.
 
You can gain more Unit Shards from:
1. Level Completion rewards. 
2. Opening Supply Chests.
3. Purchasing Packs from the Store.
4. Buying it from the Armory.
